Karate Class (7 and up)

At Charleston Family Martial Arts, our Family Karate program invites students ages 7 and up to train side by side in a supportive, high-energy environment. Adults train with adults, kids with kids—creating space for everyone to grow at their own pace while still sharing the mat as a family. Classes include striking basics, practical self-defense, and dynamic weapons training with nunchucks, escrima sticks, and kamas. Rooted in American Freestyle Karate and focused on full-contact sparring, we prepare students for real-world confidence—not just point fighting. Our experienced instructors know how to challenge both kids and adults through structured drills, one-on-one pad work, and skill-building games that keep everyone engaged. Families test together every 10 weeks, celebrating progress as a team. Located conveniently near Cane Bay, Nexton, Goose Creek, and Summerville, we’re a top choice for family karate classes and, karate for beginners. Book a free class today and see why so many families fall in love with training together.

Little Leaders (4,5,6)

Our Little Leaders program is specially designed for young beginners ages 4 to 6, with a focus on fun, movement, and foundational life skills. Held three times a week—Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 4 p.m.—these 30-minute classes balance martial arts basics with playful energy. Every session starts and ends with a game that reinforces striking drills, coordination, and body awareness, helping students build confidence through movement. Kids learn simple but powerful lessons: how to listen, follow directions, show respect, and make eye contact—all through a structured set of rules that we encourage parents to reinforce at home. Many parents say their child came in shy but soon opened up, becoming more focused, respectful, and self-assured over time. Parents are welcome to observe, making it easy to stay connected and see progress firsthand. If you’re searching for karate for kids  or martial arts  for young children, this is a welcoming place to start. Book a free class and watch your little one light up on the mat.

Sparring

Our Sparring Program is designed for students aged 13 and up who have achieved at least a purple belt, typically after 6–8 months of dedicated training. Held every Saturday at 1 p.m., these sessions focus on full-contact sparring, emphasizing safety, control, and mutual growth. Participants gear up with boxing gloves, shin guards, mouthpieces, and optional headgear, ensuring a secure environment for all.

This program serves as a stepping stone for those preparing for their first tournament or fight, offering real-world application of techniques learned in class. While the intensity is elevated, the atmosphere remains supportive and beginner-friendly. Many students find that engaging in sparring enhances their motivation, sharpens their techniques, and boosts overall confidence.

If you're searching for martial arts training, adult martial arts, or karate classes that offer practical, full-contact experience, our Sparring Program is the perfect fit. Book a free class today and take your skills to the next level.
